Otto and I took a ride down to Cape May Point yesterday, our first trip there this year. As usual, we lunched at the picnic shelter across the parking lot from the lighthouse. For the third year in a row a cardinal joined us, and this year the bird came right up to our table. Again I used my now standard 'cardinal' jokes--"Do you think the cardinal's name is Dougherty? Or do you think it's O'Hara?" Since Otto's mouth was full at the time, he got a little upset that I was making him laugh--"That's a good joke, but stop it Steve."

After lunch we took a short walk along the beach past the World War II bunker. Although the beach was replenished last year, the shoreline is much closer to the seaward face of the bunker this year (and it wasn't even high tide).

On the way back to Philadelphia we always drive through some of Cape May and Wildwood. In Cape May this building...

...is presently being converted into "unique condominiums," and in Wildwood this building...

...no longer exists.

"...everywhere a Versailles, sigh."
