... since Piranesi ultimately lived at the top of the Spanish Steps (Palazzo Tomati), he may have thus purposefully placed the Horti Luciliani in the same location within the Ichnographia Campus Martius. If this is the case, then Piranesi deliberately places himself (figuratively) within the garden of the father of Roman satire.
