Ottopia
1999.07.23
...at a serious juncture regarding entering Ottopia with the realization that I have no clear idea of how to generate it. There are various past notes containing ideas, but those ideas involve lots of cad work that would never get done in time, considering there are close to 500 locations to illustrate.
...come up with a fast and direct logistical solution for the generation of images along with a concrete conception of what it is that I'm trying to represent. ...the latest rendition of maison millennium??? is the perfect example.
...experimented with using an acquired html file with various scripts to see if I could transplant my own images and texts to create a strange new page. The experiment was not very successful, but that may be because I used too sophisticated a page to begin with. Perhaps other pages can be morphed--certainly my own pages can be used in the morph process.
...produce quick cad images (buildings, collages, crazy plans) using what I already have, and then manipulate the data using quick and easy methods. The real key to Ottopia may be to first compile a whole collection of images--existing Quondam and schizophrenia + architectures files, screen captures of cad sessions; screen captures of web sessions; and my own images using the digital camera, both outside and from TV (zoomed way in?), and store them all within an Ottopia directory. Likewise, begin to collect lots of texts using the translation program, and again store the texts in an Ottopia file.
...begin generating finished pages very quickly, using existing html files that are manipulated into the Ottopia pages. The greatest inspiration will be the "local acropolis" pages at the end of that series, and, in general, the Ottopia pages don't have to make any sense (architecturally) at all.
