Ottopia
1999.08.02
...began using excerpts (sometimes changed) from The City of God Against the Pagans and Athanasius' text on the Incarnation. I like the results from both, and it seems I can and will use a lot more of these texts--their conjunction with Ottopia is richly ambiguous. ...the notion of including the Sears implosion site within Ottopia became apparent. Specifically, call out the surviving power plant building as very Rossi-esque, and also write about Modena Cemetery and the Bustum Hadriani, plus the whole notion of imploding architecture and of reenactment.

I was already giving thought to the notion of legends = irrationality and how the enlightenment denies the existence of the irrational and this purports a not necessarily true image of reality.

The bottom line is that Ottopia can be anything, and that's what it's going to be.

1. cardo/decumanus - Roman camp; Ichnographia; Philadelphia; go to City Hall tower.
2. the crucifixion of St. Peter - the inversion of Christ's crucifixion; the Porticus Neroniani as inversion of St. Peter's Basilica; is this the origin of Piranesi's overall inversionary reenactment theme? (It certainly could be.); this could certainly lead to the double theater of St. Peter's Square; the double inverted theaters of the Ichnographia; then the Bernini double play; the Baroque ending (for sure).
3. Stirling by Giurgola - MDRT Foundation Hall and the Stirling & Gowan campus buildings.
4. Aldo Rossi- In Memorium - I discovered the Plattus 'Triumph' article the day Aldo Rossi died.
5. "Viva Villa d'Este" - what the classic age of Las Vegas reenacts.
6. Las Vegas reenacted - a picture essay of Atlantic City.
7. dies sanguines
8. the local acropolic, the Parkway, Founder's Hall, the Merchant Exchange.
9. Bryn Athyn
10. "Madness"
11. cloning - is this exactly what makes reenactment a topical issue now?
12. chronosomatics
