Adam built this house for William Petty, second earl of Shelbourn, later first marquess of Lansdowne, between 1762 and 1768. Renamed Lansdowne House, much of it was demolished in 1929 and then rebuild on a smaller scale. It is currently owned by the Lansdowne Club, although the original dining Room is preserved intact at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the first drawing room is preserved intact with some modification at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
