The temple of Hercules Custos. This temple was built to Hercules in his capacity as gaurdian of the circus Flaminius, sometime between the date of the circus, 221 B.C. and 189 B.C. It was restored by Sulla, and is mentioned in the first century. Its exact site is unknown, but it was near the east end of the circus. (Platner) |
