Each Roman Triumph is a reenactment of the first triumphal march of Romulus, who, after the battle subsequent to the rape of the Sabines, paraded his enemy's armor as a sure sign of victory.

Like the sperm of Mars, the seeds of Romulus and his ill-fated brother Remus that impregnated the Vestal Rhea Silvia, the Triumphal Way proceeds from the Templum Martis and enters the womblike Area Martis.

Here all the troops gather as they are about to mark their first rite of passage through the Arcus Trajani.

Trajan, the most clement of Roman emperors.
