Aaron should have added the distinction that Künstler in Yiddish "also means tricky or deceitful."
The German meaning of Künstler is artist, virtuoso. [My maternal grandmother learned German and Hungarian when she went to school (1908-14) as she lived in what was still the Austro-Hungarian Empire then. She generally spoke Schwabish at home and all her life, however. Granted, Yiddish and Schwabish are both fully formed German dialects.]

Interesting how Denise Scott Brown mentions "A small church or synagogue, set within a row of town houses or surrounded by office buildings, holds its own with dignity" in her editorial/op-ed piece on development of Lower Manhattan in today's NYTimes. Last night I thought of a/the Ezeri Mester Memorial design, a memorial designed and executed by 1000 artists over the next 1000 years. I decided to not overwhelmingly pursue the Ezeri Mester Memorial project however, as I'd rather have fun with Ezeri Mester, thus Spielzeitgeist Mit Ezeri Mester (where fun equals play-time-spirit).

Today, 16 August, is the feast of St. Stephen of Hungary, the first king of Hungary who was solemnly coronated with the crown sent to him by Pope Silvester II in 1000 or 1001. It appears that King Istvan was indeed Ezeri Mester.
