I appreciate what you say regarding the traditionalists 'versus' the 'contemporaries' at PAFA, and yes in a lot of ways it boils down to arguments really centered on personal tastes/feelings. The Greenberg-Tafuri connection is an apt comparison/contrast as well. Interestingly, one of the fellow presenters at Inside Density presented a paper about Pollock in the context of density, and then during our mutual panel discussion I related Piranesi's Campo Marzio plan to how this fellow presented Pollock's method and results (I think I wrote some notes about that subsequent to the colloquium).

I'm doing a lot of re-reading of Tafuri-Campo Marzio related texts that I've collected over the past however-many-years, including a lot by Eisenman (who very much sees himself as Tafuri's Pollock and even heir to Piranesi (HA!). Luckily, "De Spectaculis II" is set for presentation 14 May 2005--thus this month is very Piranesian.

What is now coming into focus is a whole thesis on reenactment that centers on the Campo Marzio and finds reality in Philadelphia. Leaving obscurity behind indeed!
