I agree with the notion of "abstract," and yes that does open up a wide berth for interpretation. Still, most of the examples have their own histories which should not be forgotten, and thus is it not just all interpretation. Abstract or not, large scale too is often a main factor.

I'm still interested in your notion of "why learn how to design, wouldn't it be more productive to learn how to produce?" Can you clarify what you mean by that exactly. Right now it makes me think of what developers, especially home developers, actually do.
