Mons Capitolinus

Mons Capitolinus

The Capitoline, although a part of the city, seems not to have been included in any one of the regions, perhaps because it was from the beginning regarded as the citadel and religious centre of the whole city, and not as a local division or part. This is implied by the very name Capitolium, which was deliberately given to the hill as the Capitol, arid was not derived from any existing settlement. (Platner)
