Ancient marble cinerary urn adorned with various symbols alluding to human life, the Owl represents the Symbol of Vigilance, the Sphinxes the Symbol of Prudence. This monument can be seen among the author's other antiquities.

Morning without a cloud, wind NW. Th. 35. ground slightly frozen. Wind draws Werly. We left home about 20 after 8 and making several stops by the way reached town 1/2 past 10/ Went before Tilghman C.J. and acknowledged the deed. We dines at SL's and during dinner received a large packet of letters from our dear Miers via Norfolk 3/15th .... Wind got to SW. We returned 1/2 past 6. S. Stanton came hither 1/2 past 8 indisposed.
