Morning hazy, wind SW, soon began to thaw in the shade. My knee being painful from yesterday's exercise, I had my horse .... to JL's carriage. Took SL, introduced him Russian gentleman recommended to me by Miers and to T. Moore, British Counsel. Rode down to my brother's and did some business downtown and got to SL's to dinner. Got off after 3 and got home about sunset. I doubt whether the frost is out of the ground except in a few spots. The air was warm as April, but one day is not sufficient, yet in many places to earth seemed settled[?] and drying. Therm. here AM 31°, rose to 48°.
